iLumin Addresses SOX

iLumin Software Services released the Assentor Enterprise SOX Edition, an e-mail records-management product specifically packaged for companies striving to comply with the Sarbanes-Oxley Act (SOX). Mike Gundling, vice president of product management at iLumin, says previous offerings of Assentor Enterprise only had the ability to supervise e-mail based on NASD and broker-activities issues, and it had just one retention setting for all messages.

To specifically address SOX, the new edition has the ability to set multiple retention periods based on various attributes of the message - such as which department an employee is in or the content of the message - and it can identify patterns in messages for things like audit working papers. Additional features include end-user declaration in archiving and a mail wall to block communication between groups that have a conflict of interest, such as investment banking and equity research.

"Firms don't have a one-size fits all Sarbanes-Oxley policy. They've needed this kind of set of solutions around proactive records management of e-mail and reactive litigation support around e-mail content," Gundling says. "It was really our customer base that drove us to do this."
