Shifting Gears: Gibson to Head Tech, Ops at NYLIM
New York Life Investment Management appointed William Gibson senior managing director of technology and operations. In the newly created position, Gibson will coordinate the technology, operations and infrastructure needs of the firm. One of his first tasks is to complete an infrastructure analysis, including an assessment of processing components.
According to Gibson, he brings to the table the ability to view technology from both the buy-side and sell-side perspectives. "If the sell-side firms have more advanced technology, then the buy-side firms are at a bit of a disadvantage," he says. "One of the things we want to do is enhance the infrastructure, operating platforms, systems and processes to eliminate a bit of that gap."
Prior to joining NYLIM, Gibson was global COO for ING Investment Management in The Hague, Netherlands. He also has held senior executive positions at Merrill Lynch, Barclays Capital and Security Pacific.
