Rosenblatt Taps West Coast Trader
Rosenblatt Securities hired Jason Valdez as vice president, strategy and business development. In his new role, Valdez is expected to strengthen Rosenblatt's efforts in agency-only portfolio trading.
Previously, Valdez was a senior trader at Frank Russell Securities in Tacoma, Wash., where he worked on the transition management and single-stock trading desk. Before joining Frank Russell, Valdez had been a member of the team that launched program trading and FIX connectivity at Thomas Weisel Partners, and also worked on Bear Stearns' program trading desk.
Valdez says he left Frank Russell to join the New York-based boutique agency-only institutional equities execution firm because, "I wanted to be more involved in strategy and business development." He adds, "I've been a trader and want to use my trading skills and experience to help improve the business." Valdez explains that his job will be part sales, but, he says, more important, he will help refine the trading process and "figure out ways the firm can position new business ideas and leverage [its] existing platform."
Making the move from the West Coast to join Rosenblatt was attractive, Valdez continues. "They're hiring a lot of smart people including a new compliance officer and others," he says. "They have great technology - they use Flextrade and have all the tools necessary to trade single stocks to futures and options."
In addition, after working for several large firms, Valdez notes that he liked the idea of working for a smaller firm. "I like that I'll be taking more of a big-picture approach - that's important to me," he says.
