The Global Association of Risk Professionals is hosting its third annual Risk Management Convention and Exhibition and Financial Risk Manager of the Year awards. The GARP 2002 event will take place February 11-14 at the Roosevelt Hotel in New York City. The first day of the conference will feature workshops entitled, "Designing and implementing an internal rating system that meets Basel II requirements," and "Practical approaches to improved market risk measurement and management." The two-day conference program includes separate streams for the different risk areas such as market risk, credit risk, operational risk and energy risk. The conference will close on the 14th with additional focused workshops for risk professionals. The award for Financial Risk Manager of the Year in 2001 will be presented at a ceremony on February 12th. For more information go to GARP's Website at www.garp.com.

As disaster recovery and contingency planning have become a hot topic, the Tel Aviv Stock Exchange has upgraded and relocated its contingency facilities to make sure trading and clearing will continue in the case of an emergency at the exchange's main premises. The new contingency facility is located outside of Tel Aviv and will include full services to members and investors during extended downtimes. The exchange is also installing a wireless communications system which would take over for fixed-line communications used during normal trading should the need arise.

The Bond Market Association is holding its 7th Annual Legal and Compliance Conference January 8-9 at the Waldorf-Astoria Hotel in New York. The conference agenda includes a high level strategic briefing on current conditions in the global credit markets and an assessment of the legal and regulatory issues of high-yield leveraged finance. Speakers include Annette Nazareth, director of the Division of Market Regulation at the Securities and Exchange Commission, The Honorable Peter Fisher, undersecretary for Domestic Finance in the Treasury Department, Robert Glauber, CEO and president of the National Association of Securities Dealers and The Honorable George Mitchell, former senate majority leader.
