Cyber Crime Film Draws Attention
Several dozen financial industry and technology professionals recently gathered at the Tribeca Grand Hotel in New York, to attend a private advanced screening of "The New Face of Cybercrime," a documentary film by Academy Award-nominated filmmaker Fredric Golding. After the credits rolled, a panel of security experts - who all starred in the film - discussed what executives should focus on when they try to protect their companies' assets against the ever looming threat of cyber criminals.
They highlighted the importance of carefully reviewing all source code before applications are implemented.
"We have to recognize that developers take a lot of pride in the code they write. But they think in terms of delivery functionality" rather than security risk, James Routh, CISO at the DTCC said. He suggested that security experts show developers their code with the vulnerabilities identified.
As for the future, Ted Schlein, managing partner, Kleiner Perkins Claufield & Byers, said he believes security audits will be getting a lot more rigorous.
"I think in 15 years, there won't be a single line of code that doesn't go through a security audit," added Ted Schlein, managing partner, Kleiner Perkins Claufield & Byers.
