Reuters Enhances IM

Instant messaging technologies are increasingly gaining a foothold in various functions of the financial services industry.

Instant messaging technologies are increasingly gaining a foothold in various functions of the financial services industry. To keep up with user demand, London-based Reuters has released version 6.0 of its Reuters Messaging (RM) service. The new version features several upgrades to keep financial professionals in collaboration with their essential contacts, according to Reuters.

RM 6.0 now includes connectivity to Yahoo Messaging in addition to previous support for MSN's and AOL's instant-messaging offerings, enabling secure communication directly from the RM client and a single contact list. The new version also includes a unified Inbox for instant messages, chat room activity and e-mail, as well as a dashboard view of conversations to improve productivity and workflow, Reuters says.

The company also is touting RM's new screen shot sharing functionality. Reuters says the enhancement enables the instant communication of desktop media, such as Excel worksheets and PDFs.
