JPMorgan Woos Citigroup Exec.

Teresa McGonagle has been appointed global practice leader in JPMorgan Investor Services' Global Client Group.

Teresa McGonagle has been appointed global practice leader in JPMorgan Investor Services' Global Client Group, leaving her position at Citigroup as the head of Global Product for Global Investor Services.

McGonagle explains that her position entails working with JPMorgan's top-tier global clients, including asset managers with a variety of products as well as investment operations around the world. "It's a rough time from a market perspective," she says. "I'll be looking at strategic initiatives with our clients, such as how they can maximize fund performance and asset-management performance and continue to foster growth."

Outsourcing is one area where McGonagle says she sees an opportunity for development.

In addition, McGonagle stresses the importance of proper information management, noting that success isn't only obtaining volumes of information, but managing, processing, and accessing that information.

McGonagle adds that she must remain forward-thinking for clients. "We have a tendency to focus on the next day, the next 30 days, the next four months," she says. "Instead, we must say, 'If we survive the next four months, then what?'"

It wasn't all bad luck for the capital markets this week: Hedge funds had a decent first quarter despite a slowdown in jobs numbers, BlackRock might be heading into new territory as hedge fund managers take a hard look at their counterparties, and the head of the IMF didn't pull any punches when assessing today's global economy. At least we can admire the nice weather and some of the best quotes of the week.
