Smartleaf Launches Portal for Model Vendors
Smartleaf, a provider of overlay management portfolio solutions to the wealth management industry, has created an online portal for model vendors.
The portal is part of Smartleaf’s Model Distribution Service (MDS), which is designed to create a marketplace for the sale and purchase of model portfolios. The service simplifies operations for both model vendors and purchasers while reducing the risk of human error, according to the company.
The online portal gives model vendors the ability to log in to a secure site to enter and maintain their models, according to today’s release. Model updates will be checked for integrity and, when approved, will be automatically transmitted to subscribing firms who use the models to guide the customized management of individual wealth accounts.
To participate in the MDS, model vendors sign a contract with Smartleaf, not directly with clients, lowering the number of contracts the model vendor has to manage. This also allows model vendors to specify the price of their models, the terms and conditions of use, and which Smartleaf clients are allowed to purchase their models.
In terms of billing clients, Smartleaf handles invoicing clients on behalf of model vendors participating in the MDS.
“This technology is an example of our commitment to innovation in the wealth management industry. By bringing automation to the process of updating and transmitting models, we’re helping to create a market for buyers and sellers of models,” states Jerry Michael, president of Smartleaf in the release. “This is a necessary step in facilitating the rapid growth of models-based overlay portfolio management.”
Smartleaf provides its overlay management software to bank trust departments, independent financial advisers and broker dealers as a way to offer customization of portfolios with tax management and compliance, on a large scale.
