Apple To Launch New App Store Selling Programs For Laptops and Desktops

The store will work like iTunes, Apple's popular online store for smartphone applications, with programs likely to cost from $10 to thousands of dollars.

In a move likely to grab the attention of millions of computer users worldwide, Apple announced that it will launch a new app store on January 6 to sell programs for laptops and desktop computers.

The store will work like iTunes, Apple's popular online store for smartphone applications or 'apps', which enables users to download games, trading programs, social media applications and thousands of other applications at the click of a button.

The new Apple store for computers will allow users to download applications that can run from $10 to hundreds to thousands of dollars.

In this MarketPlace American Public Media report, experts note that Apple is expected to take 30 percent of all app store purchases.
