NYSE And Corvil Launch Website Dedicated To Latency Transparency Across Exchanges And Market Data
NYSE Technologies, the commercial technology unit of NYSE Euronext, and Corvil, a provider of latency management, announced the launch of a jointly developed website that provides real-time snapshots of key latency performance statistics and clear methodologies used for collecting and calculating the statistics.
The site, LatencyStats.com, was created to serve as a basis for best practices in latency transparency, and is a free online tool that allows market data publishers and users to compare latency performance on a like-for-like basis as verified by Corvil.
LatencyStats will also feature exclusive content and research from NYSE Euronext, Corvil and others offering important perspectives and information relevant to the latency-sensitive trading community, NYSe and Corvil said.
“There has been so much misunderstanding around latency,” says Mark Schadel, SVP, head of global data products, NYSE Technologies.
“What is unique is that we’re not just measuring latency within our four walls. We’re calculating latency from the point of publishing of the data feed all the way down to where the customer receives the message. Often you’re missing the end to end view,” he adds.
NYSE and Corvil say the metrics are particularly targeted at high frequency traders who need to decide how much to invest on networking or market data processing systems for example. “They are aware of the need for latency, but also that there’s not much transparency around where latency occurs, particularly for market data,” says Fergal Toomey, chief scientist, Corvil.
“As well as providing an end to end view, we’re providing comprehensive metrics around latency and publishing a very comprehensive view of latency,” he adds. “These metrics will provide level of transparency around investment decisions that previously weren’t there."
LatencyStats.com will launch with the U.S. high-frequency feeds of NYSE ArcaBook and NYSE OpenBook. It will later be expanded to include additional NYSE Euronext U.S. and European markets, plus a range of feeds available on the NYSE Technologies SuperFeed platform.
