Solace Systems to Supply Barclays Capital With Global Standard For Messaging Middleware

Solace Systems, a supplier of messaging middleware and content networking hardware, and Barclays Capital, the investment banking division of Barclays Bank, have formed a multi-year global supply partnership whereby Solace equipment becomes the foundation of Barclays Capital’s new, enterprise-wide high-speed messaging platform.

Barclays Capital will use Solace 3260 Content Routers to integrate applications spanning the front, middle and back office. By consolidating all messaging needs onto the new platform Barclays Capital will simplify the current infrastructure while saving on development, datacenter and support costs.

“Global banks are under pressure to simultaneously reduce data center infrastructure spend, while still supporting the huge increases in data volumes our industry is experiencing,” said Pat Payton, managing director and head of IBD, sales, research and core services IT at Barclays Capital, in a press release. “By embedding the messaging middleware in hardware, Solace is allowing us to better compete in the next decade with a fully flexible, state-of-the-art infrastructure,” he said.

Solace hardware has been in production at Barclays Capital for over a year and has proven to be fast and reliable. Migration of more than 100 additional applications onto the global Solace backbone is currently underway. “Solace is delighted to be selected as the next-generation messaging middleware standard at one of the world’s preeminent financial institutions,” said Craig Betts, Solace’s CEO, in the release. “Working so closely with a visionary organization like Barclays Capital has helped further our mission to reshape the future of financial market technology,” he added.
