Selerity to Offer S&P's Low Latency Credit Rating Announcements

Users of Selerity platform will gain access to analysts' changing credit rating outlooks on public companies and emerging sovereign nations in machine-readable format.

Selerity signed an agreement with Standard & Poor’s (S&P) to deliver low-latency credit rating announcements in a machine-readable format, said the company today.

Clients using Selerity’s real-time event data solution will have access to breaking credit-related announcements from S&P, including ratings on public companies, along with developed and emerging sovereign nations globally.

According to Selerity, access to S&P’s rating changes is important because an opinion passed down from analysts at S&P to adjust he rating or outlook on a corporate debt or sovereign nation can have noticeable market implications.

Also, Selerity argues that fiscal instability in emerging and developed nations has contributed to recent market volatility, furthering the need for breaking credit-related announcements in a structured format.

Automated market makers and programmatic–event traders ca benefit from the expanded global coverage, allowing them to take a variety of actions in response to a ratings announcement, said Selerity.

The breaking event data will be aligned with existing structured content sets, enabling clients to more effectively manage risk and capitalize on a broader mix of trading opportunities, stated the company.

“Breaking credit events can have an immediate impact on trading,” comments Brendan Gilmartin, VP of Research & Content at Selerity, in the release. “Take for example the recent string of sovereign debt downgrades and their instant effect across all asset classes.”

In the same release, Rui Carvalho, managing director for S&P's Global Data Solutions, added: “In the current market environment, where economic, corporate and world events can swing markets wildly in an instant, immediate access to the insights and opinions of S&P’s credit analysts are an enormous competitive advantage,” added Rui Carvalho, Managing Director for S&P's Global Data Solutions. The S&P credit actions that will be included on the Selerity Platform include upgrades and downgrades, changes in outlook and credit watch status (Positive/Negative) for corporates, financial institutions, insurance, structured finance and governments, including sovereigns.
