John McKinley, formerly VP and head of global technology and services at Merrill Lynch, has been named chief technology officer at America Online Inc.

UBS Investment Bank has appointed Will Sterling as managing director of its U.S. Equities Institutional Trading Division. Sterling was previously president of Instinet's Island ECN and Clearing Unit. His former Instinet position has been filled by Alex Goor, Instinet's executive vice president for strategic planning.

The Nasdaq Stock Market has added Bruce Aust as executive vice president of the Corporate Client Group, a position previously manned by David Weild, who left Nasdaq in May to pursue other interests.
