E-mail Archiving for Five Bucks or Less

A hosted e-mail archiving solution tends to have a lower total cost of ownership than an in-house store, reports Black Diamond, Wash.-based Osterman Research in a white paper written for e-mail archiving vendor Fortiva that breaks down the costs of e-mail archiving. Assuming a three-year lifecycle for an archiving system, Osterman found that the cost to maintain an in-house archiving capability is $4.53 per user per month for a mid-size organization (approx. 1,750 users). This takes into account the up-front costs, maintenance fees and labor costs of 33 surveyed North American organizations that currently have archiving solutions deployed.

Using Fortiva's pricing structure, Osterman estimates the cost of a comparable hosted solution to be $3.58 per user per month, a savings of 26 percent. <<<
