Julio Gomez Joins Knowledgent as Industry Strategy Partner

Julio Gomez, the founder of Gomez Inc., has joined data analytics firm Knowledgent as industry strategic partner for financial services.

Julio Gomez, a Wall Street & Technology contributing author who is widely known as the founder of the e-commerce benchmarking and performance monitoring service Gomez Inc. (a.k.a. Gomez Advisors), has joined data and analytics firm Knowledgent as Industry Strategy Partner for financial services.

Gomez bring more than 20 years of experience in data and analytics consulting for financial services. He has spent time in his career implementing risk management and regulatory compliance initiatives across financial services organizations. In this new role, Gomez will drive Knowledgent’s data strategy and regulatory compliance work with clients in the financial services industry.

Knowledgent is a data and analytics consulting firm focused on the financial services, life sciences, and healthcare verticals. Data and analytics “is the hot place to be right now,” Gomez told Wall Street & Technology. “It is truly the golden age of data. The technologies that are available, such as big data or advanced analytics, allow organizations to get a return on data that they couldn’t get before.”

Gomez believes the time has come for data managers to show value from data management and analytics initiatives. “A lot of the hype around data analytics and big data is still there. But people are no longer just padding their resumé” by adding buzzwords such as big data, data scientist, or other “hot” data analytics terms, he says, noting that executives across financial services firms are well educated about data analytics.

Also, for companies that have invested in data analytics already, data executives are looking to provide immediate value. “There is the fear of being marginalized,” by not delivering data analytics capabilities as promised. Most financial firms, however, still “view data analytics as a very strategic opportunity,” says Gomez.

“People are really getting into execution mode for data analytics now. There is a unique opportunity to build a competitive advantage with data. There is a lot of investment. There is [data] gold in them there hills. But how do you get to it? How do you set up the operating model and the organization?”

“Julio is a tremendous addition to our firm,” said Sean Hickey, portfolio partner at Knowledgent, in a statement. “He brings deep data and regulatory knowledge in financial services that will only enhance our solutions to the data strategy and compliance challenges facing our clients today.”

Earlier in his career, Gomez was named one of Time magazine's "Fifty Most Important People Shaping Technology" and Institutional Investor's "Fifty Most Influential People on Wall Street.” Gomez has served as a senior analyst for Forrester Research and as the global head of research for IDC Financial Insights.
