Conroy to Head Desk at BNY
BNY Brokerage has appointed Anthony Conroy, a seasoned buy-side trader, to serve as managing director and head trader. Conroy will oversee global sales and trading for institutional trading services, which encompasses program trading, direct-market-access trading and block trading, as well as traditional sales and trading.
An industry veteran with more than 23 years of buy-side trading experience, Conroy formerly was with Merrill Lynch Investment Management (MLIM). For the past five years he served as managing director and head trader of MLIM's hedge fund unit, which has $1 billion in assets. Conroy also has served as head of equity trading for Bankers Trust Asset Management Group and, prior to that, as cohead of trading for Soros Funds Management.
Conroy will spread the word about BNY Brokerage's core competency in trading, which includes algorithmic trading built into its DEx direct-access platform. "They're a very well-known bank," says Conroy. "What's not known are all the capabilities of the bank." Conroy adds that he wants institutions to understand that the bank's diversified offerings extend to soft dollars (Autranet), independent research (JayWalk), clearing (Pershing) and G-Trade - the global execution capability for Bloomberg TradeBook and G-Port for global basket trading.
Citing the Sonic Trading Management acquisition and BNY's first-rate technology platform, Conroy says BNY Brokerage has put together a platform with a vision of the future. "Their agency block-trading desk coupled with the Sonic trading platform is one of the best on Wall Street. That's why I came here," he says.
