Where Are They Now? Mitchel Lenson, Former Deutsche Bank Group CIO

Former global CIO now analyzes and advises potential investments on technology and operations capabilities

Mitchel Lenson, who spent 25 years in financial services most recently as group CIO responsible for all IT and operations at Deutsche Bank until 2005, is currently a partner at Olivant, an investment company that provides strategic and operational expertise alongside investment capital to financial services businesses in Europe, the Middle East and Asia-Pacific.

Lenson, who helps Olivant's team evaluate technology, also joined U.S.-based NYFIX' board earlier this year. "NYFIX was looking for some more European experience to help it grow its product in Europe," he says, as it launched NYFIX Euro Millennium, the firm's European dark pool.

At Olivant, Lenson gives advice about technology and operations on potential investments. "Olivant's objective is around operational alpha," he says. "We look to partners to make investments, as well as investment in time and energy, to companies to create added value in a company." Lenson notes that Olivant has been involved in Northern Rock, the UK building society and is a shareholder in UBS.

Lenson, who also held positions at UBS Warburg and Credit Suisse First Boston before Deutsche Bank, says he doesn't miss much about life in financial services, except some of the bright and talented people with which he worked. "One thing that I miss in the corporate world is helping nurture talent and help really bright people succeed," Lenson says. "But now I get to do that at Olivant. The thing that I love about my life now is seeing younger people and finding ways to help them make it. That is one thing that I really enjoy. Finding talent, recognizing it and helping it grow."
