Newedge Hires Peter Barrowcliff, ex- Nomura, for Metals Desk
Newedge said that Peter Barrowcliff has joined the brokerage firm's metals desk as Global Chief Operating Officer. Based in London Barrowcliff, who joined from Nomura, is responsible for the back-end, credit, technology and product development as well as supervising the UK metals desk.
Commenting on the hiring, John Fay, Global Head of Fixed Income, Currencies and Commodities at Newedge, said in a statement, “Peter is one of the most highly regarded experts in the futures and metals business, with over 35 years of industry experience. His unique insight and expertise will allow us to expand Newedge’s world class Metals desk even further and continue offering best practice services to our clients around the globe.”
At Nomura, Barrowcliff was most recently working in Asia to improve, build out and deliver their futures offering in the region. He spent the first five years of his career trading at the London Metal Exchange (LME), before becoming a senior member of the futures team at Lehman Brothers where, amongst other responsibilities, he managed the European futures exchange relationships, floor team administration and all futures broker relationships. He contributed significantly to successful expansion of Lehman's European futures business, said Newedge.
Newedge is a top first ring member at the London Metal Exchange (LME) and the company’s metals capacities include leading electronic platforms, sales and trading capabilities to commercial and industrial clients, an options desk, and various services to Hedge Funds and CTA’s.
Newedge is amongst the top three Future Commission Merchants (FCMs) in listed derivatives trading in the U.S., the company noted.
