Michael Douglas' Gekko Character is Back!
Hollywood wants to cash in on the global financial crisis. Actor Michael Douglas is interested in reprising his role as Gordon Gekko, in a sequel to the 1980s movie "Wall Street."Douglas won an Oscar for his role as the avaricious corporate raider, who uttered the famous phrase "Greed is Good." Gekko's protégé, stockbroker Bud Fox, played by Charlie Sheen, wore a wire and turned him into the Feds. Though Gekko may have served time in jail, he is returning to the street on a global level. I heard he's coming back as a hedge fund manager or a mortgage lender - two pivotal roles in the current crisis. I wonder if they will talk about CDOs and the valuation crisis?
The sequel is called Wall Street2: Money Never Sleeps," and is evidently based on words uttered by Gekko in the first film. Twentieth Century is developing the project around the Gekko character. Maybe they can get Angelina Jolie to play the role of Errin Callan, Lehman's former CFO? But who will play the part of Richard Fuld or Jimmy Cayne? Let's just hope that Twentieth Century Fox decides to shoot the film in New York, which needs the money with sushi places closing and limo drivers losing their fares. But is the world ready for a Wall Street sequel?
Here are a few links about WallStreet2 - including a video with the UN interviewing Michael Douglas about the project.
