BTIG Hires Emerging Markets Fixed Income Team for London

As emerging market bonds see steady inflows, BTIG wants to ensure European-based clients have access to a local sales and trading team.

BTIG Ltd., an institutional trading firm, has expanded its global fixed income team with the hiring of four London-based emerging markets veterans.

Leading the team is emerging market veteran Darren Reiss, managing director and head of emerging markets fixed income sales team in London. Reiss is formerly of Knight Libertas. Reiss’s career in fixed income spans 18 years. Prior to Knight Libertas,

BTIG also hired Russell Scott, who joins from UBS. Scot is now managing director in the emerging markets fixed income team as head of Central Eastern Europe, Middle East & Africa (CEEMEA) Trading. Alpesh Lad joins the Emerging Markets Fixed Income Group in London with 15 years experience in Emerging Markets corporates, sovereigns and structured products. Lad’s last role was as Executive Director, Emerging Markets Structuring and Distribution at UBS.

In addition, Cornelia Colonius joined team in London with nine years experience in emerging markets on both the buy and sell side. Colonius’ last role was as director of HSBC in the emerging markets sales team covering European pension and hedge funds. Most recently she had joined the trading floor as product specialist and spot trader at HSBC Brazil in Sao Paulo.

The addition of the London team completes the first stage of BTIG’s global rollout of its fixed income group. Launched in February 2009, the Group now has more than 70 employees and focuses on sales and trading of credit products across the full credit spectrum, emerging markets and structured products.

“We have made some significant hires in our fixed income group over the last 18 months and have been actively looking for the right team to expand in the UK,” stated Gary Hayes, CEO of BTIG Ltd., in the release. “This group enhances our London team of more than 30 professionals and allows us to provide clients with a wider product offering,” explained Hayes in the release. Jon Bass, head of global fixed income at BTIG, commented in the release, “As emerging markets bonds have continued to see steady inflows in recent months and are expected to perform well over the coming months we wanted to ensure our European based clients had access to a local sales and trading team with the experience needed to navigate these markets.”
