David G. Downey joined OneChicago as CEO in 2007, where he is responsible for the growth of the exchange. Previously, he spent seven years at Interactive Brokers, a provider of direct global access trade execution and clearing services to institutional and professional traders for electronically traded products, including options, futures, stocks, foreign exchange, and bonds. As Executive VP of Operations, he led the development of the firm from its infancy. He earlier spent nearly two decades at Timber Hill Inc., a market-making firm with presence in several global stock, future, and derivative exchanges. While with Timber Hill, Mr. Downey traded as a member of the Chicago Board Options Exchange, gaining memberships on the Chicago Board of Trade and the Chicago Mercantile Exchange. He earned the title of VP of US Floor Trading Operations at the firm in 1991 and was instrumental in the spread of electronic tools for traders on the various exchange floors. His career in the securities and futures industry – which parallels the evolution of electronic trading in security and commodity products – began at the American Stock Exchange in New York in 1983. He holds Bachelor of Arts degrees in economics and political science from Boston College.
