Peregrine Helps Cut IT Costs

Peregrine Systems enhanced its IT asset management product, AssetCenter, which provides firms with a clear, updated view of the physical, financial and contractual aspects of information technology and related assets throughout the organization. Unlike previous releases, which only captured contractual details of acquired technology, however, AssetCenter 4.4 includes a new Software Asset Management module that monitors the usage of software in the enterprise environment. The module compares the actual usage against contract terms and produces reports showing that the firm is (or isn't) in compliance with its licenses.

"Organizations massively over-purchase licenses to the tune of 15 to 25 percent," says Craig Macdonald, vice president of product management for San Diego-based Peregrine Systems. "This tool gives organizations an informational advantage to go back and negotiate with vendors about their true usage needs and cut significant expenses out of their budgets without sacrificing any functionality."
