Instinet Names Christopher Rogers CTO, Appoints Michael Bundy CTO if Instinet Chi-X

Instinet named Christopher Rogers, formerly the agency brokerage's chief software architect, as its new chief technology officer. Rogers succeeds Michael Bundy who has been appointed the CTO of Chi-X, Instinet's new European equity alternative trading system.

Rogers, who has been with the firm since 2003, says his immediate focus will be on further developing algorithms and continuing Instinet's effort to link the marketplace's disparate dark pools. "Later this year we may begin to look at algos for additional asset classes," Rogers says. "We've also been quite active of late in linking our CBX dark pools with others -- such as Credit Suisse's, Citigroup's and Fidelity's -- through our Nighthawk algorithm, and we plan to continue this effort."

According to Rogers, one of the largest challenges facing Instinet, and the industry, is the ever-increasing volume of market data. "The amount of market data that must be processed has just exploded, and will continue to increase as more alternative trading venues proliferate both in the U.S. and abroad," he says. "Handling this increased message traffic will be a challenge for all firms on Wall Street, but is an area where I feel Instinet excels."

Prior to joining Instinet, Rogers worked on the development of the MarketXT platform while at Tradescape Technologies. He also has held software development positions at UBS Warburg and Morgan Stanley.
