Furey Research Partners Joins Pulse Trading’s Alliance Of Independent Research Providers

Furey Research Partners, an institutional research boutique that specializes in small-cap strategy, has joined the select group of firms that are hand-picked by Pulse Trading, Inc., a national agency brokerage firm, to supply independent securities research to Pulse’s clients. “Furey Research’s well-known small-cap expertise is now available on the Pulse Research Platform and will be a strong attraction for our buy-side clients,” said Kevin Carroll, pulse managing partner in a press release.

James H. Furey, managing partner of Furey Research said in the release, “By joining forces with Pulse, we are demonstrating the true value of independent research and agency brokerage at a time of dramatic change on Wall Street.” Before starting Furey Research in 2008, Furey was a managing director at Lehman Brothers’ Neuberger Berman unit. His small-cap research has been frequently recognized by Institutional Investor magazine, including voting him All-America Research “First Team” Small-Companies Analyst/Strategist. The Pulse Research Platform (PRP) offers a turnkey solution for newly-formed independent boutiques like Furey Research. PRP’s services include: broker-dealer registration, regulatory guidance, trading and execution, and commission management. Also provided are: PR and branding programs, strategic consulting, and marketing and distribution. Furey described his firm’s alliance with Pulse, in the release, as “strong evidence that a new model of conflict-free research and client-focused trading is rapidly emerging as the Street retrenches.” He added, “I am confident that this evolving model, driven by technology and structural forces, will overcome many of the buy-side’s frustrations with traditional practices.”

Top Quotes of the Week
It wasn't all bad luck for the capital markets this week: Hedge funds had a decent first quarter despite a slowdown in jobs numbers, BlackRock might be heading into new territory as hedge fund managers take a hard look at their counterparties, and the head of the IMF didn't pull any punches when assessing today's global economy. At least we can admire the nice weather and some of the best quotes of the week.
