ITG Hires Market Structure Expert Jamie Selway of White Cap Trading

Investment Technology Group is hiring Jamie Selway, a well-known market structure commentator, who co-founded institutional agency broker White Cap Trading. Selway is joining ITG as managing director in its New York office on Aug. 2nd.

Selway is closing White Cap Trading, which he co founded in 2003, and joining ITG along with his three partners from White Cap Trading, William D’ Arbanville, Jamie Petraglia and Tim Love, according to ITG’s release. D’Arbanville and Petraglia will join ITG’s New York trading desk while Love will join the Boston trading desk.

In a letter to clients, released publically by ITG, Selway and his partners cited the “challenging economic climate,” but expressed pride in nearly seven years of operating a small firm. “We had good run as the saying goes. We created something from nothing, served our clients, contributed to our industry’s progress, and learned continually along the way,” stated the letter, signed by the four partners.

Over the past nine months, the partners explored a handful of opportunities that would allow the current business to continue to operate in a larger, entrepreneurial organization with diversified operations and opportunity to expand in this environment. “ITG clearly meets those standards. ITG operates its institutional brokerage business without conflict, and its trust-based relationships are amongst the strongest in our industry,” stated the letter.

Selway previously served as chief economist at Archipelago and worked in equity derivatives research at Goldman Sachs.

Selway will contribute to ITG’s business strategy and provide ITG clients with analysis of market structure and potential developments in the regulatory environment.
